BurnaMaleik’s new project U Evol I tells the vivid story of a relationship that digs into the artist’s trust issues, disdain for money hungry women, and yearning to find someone who will be faithful to him without fault. These themes are illustrated in the project’s accompanying visual album as well.

Born and raised in St. Louis, BurnaMaleik, born Brandon Maleik Hawkins, was surrounded by music at a young age.

“I grew up with my parents playing a lot of Hip Hop and R&B, from the luther vandross to the bone thugs to the biggies. They made sure I had a good variety of sounds to influence me,” Maleik explained.

Despite starting to make music at 10, Maleik only began taking music seriously in high school where he released the singles “Cookie,” “Keep Talkin,” and “Cocian’A.” The track “Cookie,” which paid homage to Taraji P. Henson’s character in the critically acclaimed TV show Empire, began to gain traction with co-signs from Instagram influencer NickPattiWhack

Next, with the help of dance influencers like VanillaTrill, Shelovesmeechie, and TreyNub, “Cocian’A” began gaining traction and currently sits at 15k streams on Soundcloud. However, Maleik still wasn’t taking music all that seriously.

He decided to attend the University of Texas At El Paso but after just one semester, something unexpected happened.

“I was planning on staying in school until I was informed my scholarship didn’t go through, life basically forced me into music at that point, that’s when I first moved to LA,” Maleik said.

In a recent interview, BurnaMaleik revealed the main reason why he was passionate to pursue music.

“The main reason I’m passionate is to inspire change,” he said. “I feel like I have a lot of things that need to be said. And with the platform given to a musician I know I can have a huge impact on the people. That’s honestly my biggest inspiration, providing people with a different perspective and helping people open their eyes to ways of thinking that they may not be familiar with.”

After moving out to LA, Maleik got to work on crafting his sound and dropping music. Thanks to his connection with Vanilla Trill, Maleik met rapper T-Wayne and dropped “Fck Em Freestyle” which landed him a deal with indie label Bentley Records.

Since then, BurnaMaleik has been making waves with his music and has collaborated with Stunna 4 Vegas and Cashier Fresh and even has appeared on blogs like Elevator Magazine and Grunge Cake.

His newest project U Evol I takes a cinematic look at the dangers of love and trust in a relationship.

“Without spoiling the story I’ll say it starts bright and ends dark with an unexpected turn,” Maleik tells audiences.
