Outkast Legend Big Boi announces that he will be the executive producer for a new crime series titled Government Records. The show will be a mix of Fox’s Empire and Epix’s Get Shorty.

“I’ve teamed up with Chris DeBlasio at 850 Entertainment on a project called Government Records,” Big Boi shared in a press release. “It’s going to be big! Can’t wait to get things moving.”

“Government Records” will be based out of Atlanta. It is said to be about two ATF officials who are out to arrest a crime ring run by a 90’s Hip-Hop star. The two agents will catch them by going undercover as musicians by teaming up with the FBI and the Atlanta Police Department.

Big Bio will be joined by fellow Hip Hop icons Rakim, DMX, Pepa of Salt-N-Pepa, Big Daddy Kane, Grandmaster Flash and Doug E. Fresh, just to name a few.

“Seeing the story resonate with so many of the most legendary Hip-hop artists of all time really affirmed that we have something special here,” DeBlasio stated. “Every project you kind of secretly hope you’re catching lightning in the bottle, but this show seems to actually be doing it.”

The series for the first season will be shot entirely in Atlanta.
