While Tekashi 6ix9ine is gearing up to regain his freedom in a few months, he is now facing an all new court battle with retail giant, Fashion Nova over claims that he did not keep up his end of a contract with the company.
According to TMZ, 6ix9ine entered into a deal with Fashion Nova to promote the brand on his social media platforms as well as through his music. According to the court docs, Tekashi was paid an $225,000 advance in October of 2018. However, just two weeks after receiving the payment, he was arrested and unable to fulfill the contract.
As part of his deal, the New York rapper was supposed to shout out Fashion Nova on his single “MAMA,” which featured both Nicki Minaj and Kanye West. Instead, in a direct breach of contract, he referenced women’s brand Apple Bottoms.
“Splish splash Apple Bottoms make that ass phat,” he rapped on the track.
As previously reported by TMZ, the line did originally name drop Fashion Nova.
However, after the original name dropping “enraged” Minaj, the reference was removed at her request. It is believed that she was not pleased with the reference due to Cardi B being a Fashion Nova ambassador.
In addition, Fashion Nova is also claiming that Tekashi’s testimony during his high-profile criminal court case was damaging to his ability to be a good brand ambassador. The company says that they were blindsided by his extensive criminal activity, which his team attempted to conceal from them.
Tekashi is being sued for $2.25 million. He is set to be released from prison on August 2nd.
