It’s safe to say East Coast music artist 18sinz has a few thoughts about his ex girlfriend.

He sums up the relationship with his gritty but melodic new single “2 Years,” which has resonated with a lot of people since its July release while also making new fans of 18sinz and his modern Michael Jackson vibes.

“It’s a lot of emotions drawn into the song,” 18sinz says. “It’s about how me and my ex girlfriend have gone through a lot of troubles. She was giving me issues and I’m wondering if she’s giving me issues now and I’ve known her for this long – two years – how is it going to be in the long run? Can I trust this female when it goes down?”

He asks that last question several times in the song, which represents his evolution as an artist and his industry-developed sound. 18sinz has gotten more feedback from the new track than any of his previous releases.

“A lot of people that didn’t like the melodic sound, people I know personally, it’s definitely made them a fan of melodic music,” he says. “I’m not talking about the soft side of things. Even though it’s a relationship, it’s real and it resonates with a lot of people.”

And the comparisons to Michael Jackson? That wasn’t intentional for 18sinz, whose voice has a natural rasp that can also hit the high octaves. It’s that singing ability paired with the natural qualities of his voice that lend themselves to a modern Michael Jackson comparison.

“It’s just a crazy vibe that people oughta check out,” he says. “It’s a new vibe, it’s new to the game. There’s nobody that sounds like me. There’s nobody that sounds like this at all, not a single soul in the game.”

Born in Brooklyn, 18sinz grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina and has also lived in Queens, Atlanta, and Union City, New Jersey. He’s incorporated a piece from each of those places into his music.

“I would say I’m a mixed breed,” he says.

“His love of music is unmatched because he does have an ear that is almost old school where he can actually hear music compared to a lot of these guys that just rap on tracks. He actually understands the tones and everything that really encompasses the sound of music,” says his manager, Frank Robertson.

His older brother helped get 18sinz started with music and both are now signed to New Jersey-based CheyennRaine Music, which works with major labels like RCA, Sony and Atlantic.

“These guys are ready to go and you’re going to hear a lot of big things from them in the next few weeks, not months or years,” Robertson says.

18sinz says to expect a lot of new singles and a lot of visuals for them. He will also be featuring with some big artists on major labels as soon as the paperwork is signed. “I feel like we’re elevating so much and that’s where it’s going right now – to the top,” he says.
