Rapper Jeezy and his “The Real” boo Jeannie Mai are getting married, PEOPLE confirms.
The couple is officially engaged after the rapper proposed to “The Real” host on March 27th, PEOPLE reports. The two have been dating since November 2018 after meeting on set of the daytime talk show before going public in August of last year during the SnoBall Gala, the annual event benefitting Jeezy’s non-profit organization Street Dreamz.
The 42-year-old rapper popped the question on March 27th after his original plan of proposing during a trip to Vietnam was axed due to the current coronavirus pandemic. According to sources, Jeezy surprised Mai with a Vietnam themed proposal at his home in Los Angeles during their stay-at-home date night.
“Jeannie and Jay were set for a trip to Vietnam this April. What Jeannie didn’t know is that Jay was planning to propose. Instead, Jay decided to bring Vietnam to Jeannie with a surprise quarantine date night in his home filled with Vietnamese food and decor.” Mai’s rep revealed to PEOPLE. “
Mai has continuously gloated over her hubby-to-be since the two revealed their relationship to the world.
“Getting to know him has been one of the most beautiful experiences of my life,” Mai said of Jeezy. “He’s introspective, he’s passionate, he’s incredibly deep, he’s a visionary, he’s a great leader, he’s an amazing servant to his community.”
Although Jeezy was previously engaged to his ex Mahi, the mother of his daughter, Amra Nor, the two never made it down the aisle. This will serve as Mai’s second marriage, who was married to Freddy Harteis for 10 years before divorcing in 2017.
Mai also confirmed the news on Instagram, gushing over her surprise engagement in a celebratory post.
“I want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life loving you….YES,” she wrote before thanking all the well-wishers.
“Thank you, everyone, for celebrating this journey with us. We are praying love over everyone from here,” she added.
