Yonatan Watts is a producer based in LA (originally from Canada), who’s making a name for himself. He has earned himself placements with iconic artists such as Ariana Grande and Eric Bellinger, to Desiigner and Damian Lillard.
He started his journey with recording acts such as Trindad James, Mack Wilds, Maino, and Dreamdoll, Free from 106 & Park, to later starting a joint partnership with one of NY’s biggest recording studio’s “Invite only” and started working on major artists and budgets from labels directly, with Universal, Republic and many more.
His upbringing has definitely played a major role in his sound and how he got into music, stating that his parents have been some of his biggest influences.
“My parents having such a rich palette when it came to music, inspired me to define my sounds based on what I was hearing in the household on a regular basis,” Watts said in a recent interview. “It shaped my taste and when it came to singing, I would eventually make better decisions based on the music I was hearing and mimicking.”
Eventually, Watts would get the chance to build a relationship with these artists and started recording Ari Lennox landing on her debut award winning album “Shea Butter baby.” Yonatan also got an opportunity to work with Smokepurpp as well as Kim Viera who just put out a major song with Daddy Yankee that hit billboard charts in 2018.
The city of Los Angeles began to be a bigger discussion for him alongside his peers and colleagues alike. Watts said that people felt that it was time for him to start his transition and over this time period, he started to work with all of his musical heroes such as Rodney Jerkins and Babyface as he slowly started discovering that this was the space that he wanted to be in and felt passionate making this sound.
Upon his move to Los Angeles things began thriving, getting major label placements, lending his talents to the Billboard’s #1 album for Ariana Grande (positions deluxe) album early 2021.
