HHW: Introduce yourself to our readers, let them know your name and where you’re from.
Peace and Blessings everyone! My artist name is Legendary A.T and I’m from Lonoke, Arkansas, but I currently reside in Little Rock, Arkansas.
HHW: What inspired you to do music?
Music has always been a part of me for as long as I can remember, I grew up in the church, my dad was a drummer and that inspired me to become a drummer at either 7 or 8 years old. I’m also a huge Lauryn Hill fan so when she dropped her “Miseducation” album it motivated me to start writing songs, playing the acoustic guitar &writing poetry.
HHW: What separates you from the other artists that are currently trending/topping the charts.
I’m an artist that’s open and honest…I don’t follow all of the rules of the industry, nor do I allow it to define me! I don’t look at myself as being the best singer, songwriter or rapper. I sing with purpose and passion and I create music with the understanding that not everyone is going to like what I do and that music is for somebody and not everybody. I don’t speak on things that I’ve never gone through or experienced and I don’t talk about things that I don’t possess. My music is listenable and relatable! I’m raw and straight forward as an artist. I wasn’t afraid to document my experiences from being sexually abused as a kid, failed relationships, falling in love and overcoming judgment of people being against me as a music artist who’s apart of the LGBT community.
HHW: When did you know that music was actually going to be your career?
In 2016 when my song “No Hands” was selected to be played on one of our Major radio stations here in Arkansas- power 92 Jamz. I felt like by being selected to be played during the “local luv battle” segment that I had a shot of putting my music out to the world.
HHW: Describe your sound, What kind of melodic vibes are giving to the listeners?
I’m giving the listeners a bit of hip-hop, neo-soul, reggae and R&B…my sound is crossed between Sade and Phil Collins. My style is laid back, calm toned and unique. When I sing or rap people will be able to differentiate my sound from other artist.
HHW: What’s the process of creating music for you?
In the early morning hours between 3 or 4 am is when my creativity starts to flow and since I’m a drummer, music constantly plays in my head and I just write it based on how I’m feeling it.
HHW: Let our readers know the name of your album/EP that you are pushing and how can we find it?
The album is titled- S.Murray ( A Different Side) and it can streamed & downloaded on all digital platforms.
HHW: Is this your first album or EP?
Yes! S. Murray is my first full length album
HHW: If so, when did you release your album/EP?
I released my first EP in 2017 titled ” Back To Me” which is also available on all streaming platforms.
HHW: If there was an artist you would want to collaborate with, who would it be and why?
It definitely would have to be Lauryn Hill. I admire how she puts her personal testimonies in her lyrics. she has inspired me to sing and rap, she let it be known that it’s ok to reference God into hip hop music and it still be accepted. She’s one of the first female artist to have a number 1 album after being told by some people that her career would fail despite being pregnant with her son Zion back then. she never let any of that prevent her from achieving any of her goals. I’m extremely inspired by Lauryn Hill!
HHW: Tell our readers what to look out for next from you?
My plan is to release my 3rd album by the end of 2020 that will document the challenges I’ve experienced as an independent artist and the obstacles I’ve overcome since the release of both of my current albums.
HHW: Are you currently on any tours or have any future shows booked?
Due to this pandemic I’m currently not booked on any shows, but I’m hoping to be, once things are back to some type of normality.
HHW: How can promoters looking to book you get in contact with you?
For all booking inquiries they can send a email to Legendaryat1985@gmail.com
HHW: What do you hope to get out of your involvement in the music industry?
To be able to uplift and inspire people and I would like to be a advocate for anyone who has gone through being sexually abused. Some people are afraid to speak about their experiences of being rape or molested out of fear that no one will believe them. I’m hoping that my music will motivate and encourage someone. I will also like for my music to one day be nominated for a Grammy award and I will also like to be able to perform at the Grammys awards. I think that will be super awesome! I know that with God anything is possible!
HHW: Have you ever been involved in community service or philanthropic endeavors?
I served one year with CityYear/Americorp doing community service work, serving in schools preparing students with the academic skills needed to succeed in school and in life.
HHW: Who would you like shout out?
I would like to shout out both of my parents for their love and their support and also my siblings, Antrell, Anthony and Abram. I love ya’ll so much!!
