Introduce yourself to our readers! Let them know your name, and where you’re from.
Yes! My name is Maria “ReddRoxx” Redd or most notably known as Radio ReddRoxx. ‘m from Buffalo, New York born and raised.
So Radio ReddRoxx how long have you been working in radio?
I’ve been in radio for about 8 years now.
What inspired you to get involved with radio?
I pretty much love all things broadcasting & communications related so that’s what I went to school for. I interned at our hometown radio station 93.7 WBLK and fell in love with radio. I’ve been there ever since!
Has anyone helped you get your foot in the door?
Shout out to my PD at the time Chris Reynolds and the promotions director at the time Kole Porter, they both took a chance on me with the internship and DJ Supreme for taking me under his wings and showing me the ropes in the studio. Special shout to Jay Hicks and my current brand manager Yasmin for helping me keep my foot in the door.
So I hear you have an announcement to make, what is it?
Yasssss lol I’m super excited to announce that I’ll be heading the re-launch of Hip Hop Weekly Radio as the Brand Manager!
You’re the brand manager for HHW Radio, what is your vision for the brand?
Yes that’s correct! I’m super honored to have the opportunity. My vision is for Hip Hop Weekly radio to be a one-stop shop for everything in the culture. Music, news, finances, business, sports…everything! When it comes to the music there’s going to be a strong focus on diversity. I also vision it being a platform where creatives are unrestricted. A platform where radio personalities and DJ’s can explore the depths of their talents and get the exposure they need, especially during these trying times in the industry.
What do you look for in a DJ or personality?
Consistency, dependability, creativity and talent.
Who should any potential DJ’s or personalities that would like to get involved with HHW Radio contact?
Me! Or Stretch and he’ll forward to me. My email is email@example.com his is Stretch@hiphopweekly.com they can also call 877-572-6449.
Who should any potential advertisers or sponsors contact in regards to HHW Radio?
As of now, they can contact us both as well, but will mostly be handled by Stretch.
The HHW brand itself is known for providing a platform for up and coming artists. Will HHW Radio have any shows dedicated to indie artists?
Absolutely!!! That’s part of what I meant by music diversity. Indie artists are a a big driving force in the culture, we recognize that and plan to give them a bigger platform.
You’ve been in radio for a while, if you had the opportunity to work with any of the big name DJs who would it be?
There’s so many! Of the top I’d say DJ Drama, DJ Clue and DJ Kay Slay. They’re all dope in their own rights and did a lot for the culture especially underground.
Radio ReddRoxx you’ve interviewed plenty of celebrities, if you had the opportunity to interview any big names who would it be?
Faboulous. Lol been trying to get him on an interview for a long time. I’d also love to interview some of the greats like Jay Z of course, Diddy and Master P. Mostly to pick their brains lol. When it comes to women, I would like to interview Meg The Stallion, Lauryn Hill, Summer Walker, Snoh Allegra. This list can go on forever!
What do you expect to get out of the radio industry?
I hope to be one day recognized as a pioneer in the radio industry, especially for women.
