Meet Akash Ahuja, The First Indian Artist Featured On A Billboard in Times Square

Another cold, gloomy morning in downtown New York City. The streets are crowded as usual with people hunkered down attempting to keep warm as they reach their destinations as quickly as possible. But there’s something different about today. Right in the heart of the big Apple, amongst all the flashing lights, shines a new and unique glow welcoming Akash Ahuja, India’s newest musical sensation.

Despite having the largest global film industry, Indian music artists rarely make it to the global stage. With the 2009 debut of “Down” ft. Lil Wayne India thought Jay Sean would be their first artist to have a mainstream presence all around the world. Unfortunately soon after the release of “Down” his buzz rapidly declined. Over a decade later, Pop artist Akash Ahuja (@akashlife) shows promising signs of actually being India’s first global superstar. Since the release of his debut single “Come Closer” in February 2020, he has accumulated hundreds of thousands of raving fans, amassed millions of streams, and in February 2020 officially became the first Indian artist to have his own billboard in the heart of New York City, Times Square.

With over 70,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and thousands more across other music streaming platforms, we see a bright future for this young heartthrob. Akash blends classical Indian sounds, Hip-hop elements, and catchy pop melodies with the theme of love to create a unique sound. With a bold fashion sense which blends masculinity with femininity, music that connects with the hearts of romantics, and a charming personality, he quickly wins the hearts of fans all over the world. Although, early signs are promising for this New York based Indian artist, only time will tell if Akash really has what it takes to be India’s first global musical icon.
