Dr. Fauci Suggests Concerts Venues and Theaters will Reopen Fall 2021

To attend a concert or live event is something that is truly missed by many during the course of the pandemic. People that attend concerts and music festivals along with other live events are waiting for that highly anticipated day where they can finally see a live show. The US top health expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, is projecting that this moment can be a reality later on this year if things go according to plan.

Fauci participated in a virtual conference hosted by the Association of Performing Arts Professionals this past weekend, where he reportedly said, “If everything goes right, [concerts] will [return] some time in the fall of 2021. So that by the time we get to the early to mid-fall, you can have people feeling safe performing onstage as well as people in the audience … I think you can then start getting back to almost full capacity of seating. We’ll be back in the theaters — performers will be performing, audiences will be enjoying it. It will happen.”

Fauci and Maurine Knighton, Program Director for the Arts at the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, also discussed the topic of enhanced ventilation systems and proper air filters at indoor music venues.

“What the performing arts needs to do is to do a little bit more of what the Germans are doing,” Fauci continued in speaking of a recent German study of COVID-19 transmission at an indoor concert setting. The researchers found that indoor events had a “low to very low” impact on the spread of the virus as long as event organizers took a proactive initiative on providing sufficient ventilation, safe hygiene protocols upon entry, and limited capacity to start out.

Hopefully we can have something big to look forward to this Fall for artists, performers, and for people hoping to attend live concerts and events after being discontinued since COVID-19 pandemic began last year.
