Ashanti is starting the new year off on the right foot! As we all remember, the singer was supposed to face off against Keyshia Cole in a Verzuz battle back in December but unfortunately, the 40-year-old revealed that she had tested positive for the coronavirus on the same day of the battle.
“Hey all, I can’t believe I’m saying this but I tested positive for COVID-19,” Ashanti wrote on Instagram that day. “I’m OK and not in any pain. I’m actually down to do the Verzuz from my house … We’re trying to figure it out.” Sadly, it was put on hold.
At the time, Ashanti had just gotten back from Africa but she made it very clear that she did not contract the virus from her trip. “To be very, very, very clear — yes I’ve been traveling. Yes I went to Nairobi; I had an amazing time. No, I did not get COVID from traveling. I did not get COVID from being in Africa or anything like that,” she said during an Instagram Live session. “I actually got it from a family member when I came home. I came home and I hugged a family member who ended up being positive. I didn’t know he was positive; he didn’t know he was positive, so when he went to get tested, I was like, ‘Oh f**k.’”
Now that the singer is Covid-19 free, fans will be thrilled to see her take on Keyshia Cole in the highly anticipated Verzuz battle, taking place on January 9 at 8 PM EST.
