Actor Thomas Jefferson Byrd known for his roles in “Clockers,” “Girl 6” and “Get on the Bus” was found dead in Atlanta, Georgia. According to a police spokesman by the name of Anthony Grant, the actor was fatally shot with multiple gunshot wounds to the back. A call was made around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday. Byrd was 70-years-old when he was pronounced dead upon police arriving at the scene. His death is under investigation due to the circumstances and nature of which it happened.
He was found on the southwest side of Atlanta where he resided. Homicide detectives are working to figure out exactly what happened and choose not to provide any details on the case at the moment. Byrd is best known for starring in countless films directed by director Spike Lee. He began his craft at Morris Brown College and later retrieved a master’s degree from the California Institute of the Arts. He then went on to become a stage actor which eventually lead him to being a film actor. Other projects Byrd has been apart of include, “He Got Game,” “Ray,” & “Brooklyn’s Finest.”
Spike Lee and Thomas grew very close over the years which turned into a true friendship. In a Instagram post, Lee had this to say about the fallen actor.
“Tom Is My Guy, May We All Wish Condolences And Blessings To His Family. Rest In Peace Brother Byrd.”
